The Unseen Disaster in North Africa

In Mali a tradegy is unfolding, but unlike Syria this does not make the front pages of international news. The people are norther Mali are now learning what is means to live in a religious dictatorship and to have their rights curtailed. Already the Islamic fighters have destroyed centuries old shrines to saints accorded Unesco heritage status and it is also alleged stoned a couple do death for having relations outside of marriage. Who will help them against this tyranny?

Why cannot these people with strong religious beliefs find a place to worship in peace? Why do they have to impose it on other people who have not asked for their version of religion and in some cases pay with their lives for not following the true path? These people who impose religious laws on others are truly the evil amongst us.

  1. Mali is not the proxy battleground between Iran and Saudi. Also it looks like it might descend into another Somalia-like situation at some point. Since US lost the Somalian war to help establish a sound elected functioning government there, no country is interested in going into a similar situation (in Mali) like US did in Somalia. Hence no big international news coverage. As usual, international aid agencies and charities have responded to the crisis in Northern Mali but facing great difficulty in providing help to the Northern Malians. This army of overly-religious zealots in Northern Mali obviously prefer to help their fellow muslims/countrymen suffer hell on earth and thus help them meet God sooner rather than later. Dohabunny.
